Self Esteem - November Series

BKLA youth conducted the second session of the Self Esteem series for youth on 20th November ‘05. The Self Esteem series continued from where it left during last session.
The previous session introduced the basic building blocks of Self Esteem and introduced the participants to concepts like Self Identity and Self Appreciation using various workshops and activities.

The current session discussed deeper aspects of self-esteem covering topics like Self-worth and Self-approval. The session started with Bro.Vivek doing a round up of the previous session and engaged the participants in interesting discussion on letting go and choosing a role model, using a beautiful presentation ‘Zoom’. This session set the tune for the rest of the workshop, as the participants present there got involved in lively discussion.

This was followed by session by Bro Juan on Self- Approval. All the participants were distributed in various groups and each group discussed the various aspects of self-approval beginning with the exercise on ‘contentment’. When the session broke out Bro.Juan began the feedback session in his usual articulate and composed style. All the participants shared their views on contentment and the role of contentment as a quality in strengthening the process of self-approval and leading to a more clear perspective on ones own identity. The participants also shared their perspective on the qualities of the group members with whom they interacted during the group discussion earlier. It was beautiful discussion, where individuals were sharing the qualities of their group members, which induced a sense of self-appreciation among all the participants present. This was the ideal platform to jump in to the next session, which was ‘Self-worth’.

Sister Lorien conducted the session after the break and took the participants on the journey of discovering the ‘Self –Worth’ in her usual wit and flair .She conducted the discussion on Self-worth as “Intrinsic value of one self” and provided insight to participants on various aspects on worthiness. She used various questionnaires and self-discovery exercise on relating individuals to the worthiness of the resources available to them. Using various questionnaires present in the Self-esteem workbook, she engaged the youth in dwelling deeper in recognizing their self worth and the value of the resources present within them. The overall idea was to build a sense of worthiness within individuals by helping them realize their internal worthiness and how to bring value to the available resources through using them in worthwhile way. When an individual has worth of one’s own self, s/he utilizes all the available resources in worthwhile way, thus bringing benefit to the self and all those around, thus building healthy self-esteem in the individual. After the exercise the participants presented their feedback on what they considered valuable to them and ways in which they can act to enhance their awareness of these inherent jewels.

This session of the workshop series was wrapped up with Sister Gita distributing sweets and blessings to all the participants.
